Introducing the new Luci: understand yourself

Published on August 16, 2026

When we started building Luci, we wanted to make something that did more than store your moods. Anyone can log a day. The hard part is looking back over months of entries and seeing what actually connects — why some days feel heavier than others, and what the good ones have in common.

That's what this release is about. Luci now finds those connections for you, and tells you about them in plain language.

Your patterns, in plain language

Here's what it looks like in practice. You open Luci and there's a quiet note waiting:

On days after you sleep less than six hours, your mood is lower. This has held for the last five weeks.

No dashboard to interpret. No confusing charts to reason with. It all comes to you in plain language.

The graphs are still there — tap through to the stats page and for any pattern you can see the data behind it, check the timeframe, and decide for yourself whether it holds up. But you no longer have to go looking. Luci watches for the patterns and mentions them when it finds one.

To give it more to work with, this release adds brand new things you can measure alongside your mood: steps, sleep, nutrition, and body and thoughts. With the inclusion of these new categories there are more patterns to track than ever before.

Just mathematics, on your device

Pattern finding sounds like a job for AI or some data server that is not on your device. We don't think it is.

Finding a correlation across a few thousand data points is a math problem, it's about statistics, and statistics runs perfectly well on a phone. So that's where it runs. Your entries stay on your device. Your data is not sent anywhere to be analysed, not by us or by anyone else. If you turn on sync to use Luci across your devices, your data is encrypted at rest and it's still yours — sync will always be optional and we turned it off by default.

A mood journal is one of the most personal things you'll ever write. It shouldn't need to leave your pocket to be useful.

A journal for more than words

Some days a sentence isn't enough, and some days it's too much. The new Luci now lets you add voice recordings and photos to your entries, so you can capture a day the way it actually happened. And you can even format your words with headers, bold and italic to really get your message across.

And if you've been journaling somewhere else, you don't have to start over. You can now import your existing entries from industry leaders such as Daylio and Pixels and carry your history with you.

Make it yours

Your home screen and your statistics view are now yours to arrange. Put the things you care about at the top, hide the ones you don't, and build a version of Luci that fits how you actually use it.

As you progress on tracking your mental health journey, new ways to express your feelings will unlock in the shape of customisation options and new theme colors. We always wanted Luci to be a reflection of you, and we're excited to make it yours.

Available August 25

The new Luci arrives on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android on August 25 and is a free upgrade for existing users.

This is only part of what's new. Over the coming weeks we'll dive deeper on these new additions and what we did to bring mood tracking to the next level.

We're looking forward to hearing what you find.
